Curing a Sweet Tooth

Raise your hands if you have ever called your prep coach crying (or almost in tears) because you REALLY wanted something sweet during prep! If you could see me right now I’m waving frantically! Over the course of multiple preps and reducing my weight from 135 lbs. down to 109 standing at 5’2, I have cried many a times for something sweet. I have learned/ created a few hacks to satisfy the craving without actual sugar or any bloating.

In fact, a few of them may reduce bloating (thank me later!)

Hack #1
Some coaches encourage their athletes to drink hibiscus tea during peak weak if they are reducing their water. Hibiscus is a strong natural diuretic, BUT it is super flavorful! So those days where I just NEED a 0 calorie sweet snack, I will eat hibiscus tea! Scrunching your face up asking how yet? Keep Reading…
Bring a pot of hibiscus tea to a boil.
Add cinnamon for added flavor if desired.
Allow it to steep and cool.
Pour cooled tea into DIY freezer pops and freeze for 24 hours.
VOILA!!! 0 calorie, 0 sweetener, 0 chemicals SWEET POPS!!

Hack # 2
Okay now this can only be done during the weeks your coach allows you to have whole eggs and protein powder (hopefully its every week!) There are TON of protein pancake recipes online but, if you’re like me: 1) I hate bananas 2) I’m not putting oats in something that’s supposed to be fluffy and delicious 3) I think protein pancakes should taste like AN ACTUAL PANCAKE… Ready for this one?
For thin pancakes:
Add one scoop of protein powder
1/4 cup of water
1 whole large egg
Add cinnamon and nutmeg to taste
Whisk until fluffy
On a preheated griddle or skillet, spray 0 cal. coconut spray to eliminate sticking. Pour batter into skillet, brown to desired level and flip.
For fluffier pancakes add 1/2 tsp of baking powder.
The calorie count depends on the protein, however its under 300 calories and super sweet without an ounce of sugar!!
For fluffy pancakes, whisk 1/2 tsp into the mixture! Enjoy!
**Pair with a 0 fat or 0 sugar syrup to stay on track!

Hack # 3
Okay so this is soo delicious but the sugar count is going to be dependent on the size of apples you use. This may be torture if you love apple pies, but it also does the trick!! Here’s the rundown!
Slice apples in sections or halves
Spray 0 calorie coconut oil on them LIGHTLY
Sprinkle cinnamon and nutmeg over apples
bake at 350 degrees for 30 mins
Pour 3 tbsp. of water over apples and bake for 15 more minutes
No, seriously… ENJOY!!
